Editor Olivia Gibson visits Brooks & Brooks Salon in Covent Garden to experience a hair makeover
Hair has played a significant role throughout human history, carrying immense cultural and social importance. It is undeniable that even in today's society, hair continues to hold a crucial position. I am constantly on the lookout for ways to protect my precious locks, whether it's by using top-notch hair products or minimising exposure to heat in order to prevent any damage. However, after sporting the same hairstyle for years, I began to feel the urge for a change. As someone who had never dyed their hair before, I have always been apprehensive about altering my natural colour and the entire process involved. Nevertheless, in my quest for a fresh start, I decided to embrace change when I received an invitation from Brooks & Brooks Salon in Covent Garden to review their exceptional services. Thus, on a Tuesday evening, I made my way to London to meet with their team for a consultation.
Brooks & Brooks Salon, a cornerstone of the industry for more than 20 years, have relocated to a historic building set against the backdrop of bustling Covent Garden. The move seamlessly merges historic elegance with a contemporary vision for hair design, where staff and stylists have curated an atmosphere that reflects both the rich history of the location and the innovative spirit of the artistic team.
Upon reaching the Grade II-listed building, just a short stroll away from Holborn station, I was warmly welcomed by a friendly team in a luxurious and elegantly simple setting. This establishment serves as a collaborative space where individuals who are passionate about fashion and beauty come together to revolutionise the world of hair.
The Senior Top Stylist and Colour Specialist, Kayleigh, was my hairstylist. She took the time to listen to my concerns and guide me through the process, ensuring that I achieved my desired look. Her expertise and passion helped me feel at ease during the technical aspects of the process. Before developing a plan to enhance my hair, she made sure to understand my individual needs and characteristics. Together, we decided on a partial balayage technique that would give me a sun-kissed appearance, incorporating a dragged root and money pieces to frame my face. To ensure there were no adverse reactions to the products, I conducted a quick and easy patch test.
When the day of my appointment arrived, I was excited to see the results. The process began with the application of bleach, which removed the pigment from my hair. Foils were used to ensure an even distribution and to expedite the lightening process by trapping heat. The bleach opened up my hair cuticle, allowing the natural pigment to dissolve. Once my natural colour had lifted, Kayleigh applied toner to create a natural look with a variety of shades while neutralising any brassy tones. This artistic application was done freehand using a brush, resulting in a natural-looking outcome. During the process, a deep conditioning treatment was used to add shine, and INNOluxe was applied to strengthen and protect my hair. Additionally, I was treated to a relaxing head massage for the ultimate pampering experience. Afterward, my hair was cut to add more structure and address my lack of volume. Finally, it was styled with a gentle wave to enhance its overall appearance.
Seeing the stunning array of colours that beautifully caught the light and added definition to my hair for the first time made me feel like I belonged on a Pinterest board! I was absolutely in love with my new look and felt confident and ready to take on the streets of London.
Kayleigh's work was truly remarkable, leaving me feeling like a million bucks. It was an absolute delight to be in her company, soaking in her awe-inspiring accomplishments and witnessing her unwavering passion. Her dedication to her job was evident in the outstanding outcomes she achieved.
Overall, I would highly recommend the salon! During my visit, it became evident that Brooks & Brooks Salon is a close-knit group of hairstylists who are dedicated to providing clients with astonishing results that enhance their inner and outer beauty. The enjoyable and laid-back atmosphere establishes a cosy environment where one can detach from the distractions of the external world. RSVPing 'YES' to multiple weddings? Here's how to budget!
Attending weddings can be a joyous occasion, but it can also be expensive, particularly if you're invited to more than one over the course of the year. Costs such as new outfits, travel and accommodation, and gifts mean the overall expense of attending can quickly add up. Duncan Fortune, Head of Commercial at Tesco Bank, says: "Wedding season can be a significant expense for households. Planning ahead and setting a dedicated budget for celebrations can help spread the cost over several months, allowing people to make the most of the celebrations while keeping their finances on track."
